Abstract
This collection is comprised of a single item - a questionnaire for concentration camp inmates issued by the Military Government of Germany, completed by or on behalf of Oscar Erdos, a Hungarian Jew. The document is dated July 26, 1945 and was issued and filled out in Dachau Concentration Camp, Germany.

Biographical/Historical note

Oscar Erdos was a Hungarian Jew, born on April 18, 1903. He was a merchant, living in Budapest, Hungary prior to the war. From 1940-1944, he was in labor camps, as many Hungarian Jewish men were. Arrested on November 7, 1944 by the Gestapo, in Negyeshalom, Hungary, he was interned from that date until his release on July 26, 1945 in concentration camps Turkheim, Kaufering and Allach-Dachau. Liberated on May 1, 1945 by the United States Army, Mr. Erdos recuperated from illness and malnutrition, and in mid-September, returned to Budapest.

Scope and Contents note

The collection is comprised of a Concentration Camp Inmates Questionnaire issued by the Military Government of Germany to Mr. Oscar Erdos, a Jewish man from Hungary, in Dachau Concentration Camp. It was completed on July 26, 1945. The questionnaire requests information as to birth date and place; religion; occupation; date, place and reason for arrest; and place(s) of detention. The questionnaire also requests particulars relating to inhumane treatment, as well as information regarding Nazi party membership, military service and employment by the Nazi Party. The collection also includes a letter written by Mr. Erdos that briefly describes his liberation by United States troops in Dachau, recuperation there, and his return to Budapest, Hungary.
