About the Film
Among Neighbors examines the story of Gniewoszów, a small, rural town (shtetl) in Poland where Jews and Polish Catholics lived side by side for centuries before World War II. Through the voices of Yaacov Goldstein, the last Jewish survivor of the town, and Pelagia Radecka, a Polish woman who witnessed atrocities committed not by Nazis, but by fellow townspeople, the film reveals the complicated history of the Holocaust in Poland. Using hand-drawn animation, verité footage, and magical realism, filmmaker Yoav Potash’s Among Neighbors highlights both the silence of witnesses and the courage it takes to speak against denial and erasure.
