David Braunstein has taught at Carlmont High School in Belmont, California for the past 23 years. He earned his B.A. in International Relations from UCLA and an M.S. in Public Management and Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. David’s dedication to education and public service extends beyond the classroom. He served as both mayor and city council member from 2007 to 2015, during which time he participated on several educational committees in collaboration with the local university and elementary school district. At Carlmont, he served on the Site Council, as a mentor teacher, coached football, and currently teaches U.S. Government and Economics. He organized a visit that brought Holocaust survivor testimony to the school and has participated in the JFCS Holocaust Center and the California Teachers Collaborative in the Winter of 2024 and June 2025. Since 2022, he has been a guest speaker at NDNU in their teacher education program.
