Forever Remembered
Holocaust survivors and descendants light memorial candles at the 2024 Yom HaShoah commemoration in San Francisco
An Immersive Community Sound Installation for Yom HaShoah
Forever Remembered is a powerful new community memorial experience from the JFCS Holocaust Center. Created in partnership with local leaders and organizations, it honors the Jewish men, women, and children murdered during the Holocaust while strengthening how we remember and carry their stories forward.
For decades, the Holocaust Center has led the annual Reading of Names on Yom HaShoah, preserving the memory of nearly 3,000 victims whose names were gathered from descendants in the Bay Area. Forever Remembered builds on this sacred tradition, transforming it into an immersive sound installation that invites participation across generations.

We are grateful to our community partners for their shared commitment to remembrance and community: Congregation Beth Sholom, Congregation Emanu-El, Congregation Sha’ar Zahav, Congregation Sherith Israel, and the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco.
Major support for Forever Remembered is provided by the 2026 JFCS Marin Donor Circle.
Speak a Name. Carry Memory Forward.
At the heart of Forever Remembered is a simple and powerful act: speaking a name.
Community members are invited to record readings of Holocaust victims’ names—both family members and names from the Holocaust Center’s archives. Each voice becomes part of a collective memorial, woven together into a continuous sound installation by Bay Area Jewish sound artist Forest Reid.
The Experience
On Yom HaShoah, the installation will play continuously in the Hall of Remembrance. Visitors will encounter a powerful space for listening, reflection, candle-lighting, and engagement with Yizkor books (memorial books) listing every name honored.
A Living Memorial
Forever Remembered is designed to grow year after year as new voices and names are added. In future years, the installation may be adapted for the new Holocaust Center building, establishing a permanent and evolving communal memorial.
Keep your loved one's name alive through a tribute gift.
Their name will be listed forever on our Wall of Remembrance.
