Volunteer with the JFCS Holocaust Center
The William J. Lowenberg Speakers Bureau educates about the Holocaust and genocide through survivor testimony. Our speakers, including survivors and their descendants, share firsthand accounts in classrooms, institutions, companies, and community spaces to promote understanding, counter hatred, and inspire action.
Do you have a family story of survival to share? Would you like to work directly with Holocaust survivors? We are seeking volunteers for two roles:
Descendant Docents are second- and third-generation descendants of Holocaust survivors. After completing training, they join the Speakers Bureau and lead their own programs, sharing their family’s story with students and organizations and carrying survivor testimony forward to the next generation.
Volunteer Facilitators support Holocaust survivors as they share their testimony with schools and organizations. Facilitators introduce the program, advance the slides, and moderate the Q&A. They may occasionally be asked to drive a survivor to and from a program.
Each program runs 75 minutes, including a 15-minute Q&A. We serve schools and organizations throughout the Bay Area, including San Francisco, the Peninsula, the East Bay, and Marin County, and we do our best to match volunteers with programs that fit their availability and location.
