History
The Netherlands was occupied by Nazi forces in May 1940. A civil administration was installed, under Schutzstaffel (SS) auspices, which existed side-by-side with a Dutch administration. Beginning in late 1940, anti-Jewish measures were instituted to deprive Jewish citizens of their rights, to marginalize the Jewish community, and to confiscate its property. Deportations of Dutch Jews to concentration camps began in 1942. Over 100,000 Dutch Jews perished during the Holocaust.
Scope and Contents note
This collection is comprised of four German/Dutch bulletins, issued by the General Commissar for Security Matters of the Reich Commissioner. These decrees contain proclamations, generally prohibitions on various activities and regarding anti-Jewish actions and policies.
Bulletin No. 3, dated 12 August 1942, has been translated into English. Its contents describe restrictions and prohibitions directed at Jews in occupied Netherlands. The tables of contents for Bulletins No. 1, 2, and 4 have been translated into English and summarized.
