This collection documents Rev. Paul Hecht’s personal history in Berlin during 1938-1939. It includes a list of names of functionaries of Berlin Jewish congregations deported in 1939-1942, showing the concentration camps where they were killed and a list of names of members of Hecht family who were deported during the period of 1939-1942, showing concentration camps where they were killed.

Scope and Contents note

This collection documents Rev. Paul Hecht’s personal history in Berlin under Nazi rule. The collection includes a statement written by Rev. Hecht detailing his service during World War I, his arrest after Kristallnacht, his unsuccessful attempts to emigrate, his work as a cantor during the war years, and the fate of Berlin’s Jewish community and of his family. Also included is a list of names of functionaries of Berlin Jewish congregations deported 1939-1942, showing the concentration camps where they were killed and a list of names of members of Hecht family who were deported during the period of 1939-1942, showing concentration camps where they were killed. The statement, as well as a transmittal letter, are in German. English translations are available.
