False Identity Papers

During the war, Stanley (Samek) Steyer engaged in various clandestine activities, ranging from the manufacture of ersatz coffee, to supporting the Jewish underground in the Warsaw ghetto, to arranging hiding places for his family and friends. He was often on the run, pursued by the Gestapo. For this reason, Stanley adopted several false names and identities. The first of these was “Stanisław Olgierd Włodzimierz Sternikowski.” The above identity document dates from after the war, but we see that Stanley was still using the false name of “Stanisław.” It is handwritten here in pen.
