Stanley and Diana

This picture was taken in Poland, after the end of World War II. Stanley Steyer and Diana Kintzel had met during the war and fallen in love, despite their different backgrounds: Diana was a Polish Catholic and Stanley was Jewish. Diana had risked her life to assist Stanley in his clandestine activities during the war, as he placed his family and friends in hiding, and supported them. Despite their heroic efforts, all of Stanley’s immediate family members were killed by the Nazis. When Stanley decided to leave Poland and immigrate to the United States, Diana left her family to join him. She would always long for her beloved parents and older siblings, who remained in Poland during the communist regime.
